WELDER QUALIFICATION TEST - SHOWCASING THE SKILL OF WELDERS
Welding technology plays a crucial role in the manufacturing industry, contributing to enhancing the competitive position of businesses in the market, overcoming technical barriers in trade, and meeting international standards. It is widely applied in various sectors such as oil and gas, shipbuilding, high-speed railway construction, aviation, petroleum refining, chemicals, and industrial machinery manufacturing. Welding is also a popular method for connecting metal materials, significantly impacting the cost and quality of products.
With such importance, recently, QIS proudly took on the authorized role of organizing the welder qualification test for PTSC Thanh Hoa, in collaboration with DNV as the evaluating and certifying entity for welders. All welders must meet the medical requirements for work and have different levels of welding qualifications for the project, categorized as trained welders and newly qualified welders.
The assigned task for welders is to complete the Welder Qualification Test, 6G level, using the GTAW and SMAW methods. The competition took place over two days (June 21-22, 2023) with the participation of 21 welders, who were provided with the necessary tools and equipment, including Tempilstick or infrared gun, Torch light, Inspection mirror, Welding Gauge, Taper Gauge, Level rule
The competition was organized to assess the skills of the welding team before entering the project entrusted to QIS for inspection by the investor. QIS's VT 9712 personnel monitored the welder qualification process and conducted visual inspections after welding to check the quality, dimensions, and deformations of the welds. The acceptance criteria for the completed test samples must meet the minimum requirements stated in the Company's Technical Specifications and relevant laws such as ASME IX, AWS D1.1, and DNV OS F101.
The welder qualification test is not only an important event to evaluate the proficiency and abilities of welders but also an opportunity to demonstrate the advancement and development of the welding industry. Through this competition, the welders have showcased their abilities and gained recognition for producing high-quality welds that meet technical requirements and international standards.
